Introduction and Explanatory information
The idea of our own record book of game trophies originated while observing the continued enthusiasm with which our members participate in our annual competition.
Perusal of the trophy register proved furthermore that the hunting achievements in our association are of a very high standard, It was decied therefore to firstly do justice to those trophy animals which were successfully hunted, and secondly to honour those sport hunters who, with dedication and competence, have taken exceptional trophies. For the sake of uniformity, both senior and juniors members’ achievements have been listed. Of interest is the fact that junior members have often been placed in the top ten positions.
For practical reasons and for the sake of continuity the Lowveld Hunters- Game Conservation-, Fire-arm collector and Sport shoot Association still follow the well known Rowland Ward measuring system and use their latest statistics as a basis for comparison with our own.
Although the Baboon and Hyena do not appear in the Rowland Ward Record Book, it is the policy of our Association to accept both species for the purpose of our competitions and consequently fair and attainable standards hava been established. The minimum Rowland Ward requirements for Buffalo, Elephant, Hippo, Sable, Tsessebe and Lechwe would place these trophies beyond reach of most of our hunter and minimums have therefore been lowered.
Where more than one entry appears with the same measurements, the later was given preference in rank.
Where no date is indicated, the trophy is considered to have been hunted prior to 1985.
This book of records was prepared with pride and much appreciation and support of our members and we trust that it will offer a great deal of pleasure to all who read it.
